The Federal Government has scrapped the requirement for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for candidates applying to study Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes in colleges of education.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, made the announcement on Monday during JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting in Abuja.

According to the new directive, applicants will now only be required to have a minimum of four O-level credits in the Senior School Certificate examination to qualify for admission into NCE programmes.

The minister explained that the decision is aimed at reducing the administrative workload on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
