All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Ekiti State, Abiodun Borisade, has stated that God is using Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who is also the party’s governorship candidate, to bring unity to Ekiti State 133 years after the Kiriji War.

The Kiriji War was a 16-year civil conflict between 1877 and 1893 among Yoruba sub-ethnic groups. It involved the Western Yoruba—mainly Ibadan and Oyo-speaking communities—and the Eastern Yoruba, including Ekiti, Ijesa, Ijebu, Yagba, and others.

Borisade made the remarks on Monday in Ijero Ekiti while waiting for Oyebanji’s campaign train to arrive in the local government area. He commended the administration’s emphasis on unity and praised the governor for fostering togetherness among people of different towns, religions, and political affiliations.

He said, “The last time in the collective history that Ekiti spoke with one voice was during the Kiriji War (1877–1893), unifying to form the Ekiti Parapo. God is using Governor Oyebanji to unite the state once again 133 years after the Kiriji War.”

The APC chieftain also reaffirmed his support for Oyebanji’s re-election bid, saying the governor is set to make political history in Ekiti.

“Come June 2026, the ‘child of destiny’, Biodun Oyebanji, through divine intervention, will be claiming a spot in the political history of Ekitikete, having galvanised the entire political space to ensure his return to office for a second term,” he said.

Borisade further disclosed that he and his supporters were mobilising across various communities ahead of the governor’s campaign visit.

Supporters from Iloro Ekiti and Ijurin Ekiti were seen wearing T-shirts and fez caps branded in support of Oyebanji’s re-election.

He added that his group had been engaging in door-to-door mobilisation and expressed confidence that the governor would secure over 500,000 votes in the June 20 election.
