Police arrest two over Hospital cable theft in Ondo

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested two suspects over the alleged vandalisation and theft of electrical installations at the General Hospital in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the incident was reported on May 6, 2026, after a resident alleged that a suspect identified as Promise Godspower unlawfully entered the hospital premises, vandalised electrical facilities and stole cables.

According to Jimoh, police operatives acted on intelligence and investigative leads to track down and arrest the suspect.

“During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the offence,” he said.

Police also detained a hospital security personnel, Pogbara Sigalo, for questioning over alleged negligence and possible involvement in the incident.

Jimoh added that the stolen electrical cables had been recovered, while investigations continue.

Reacting to the development, Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal condemned the alleged vandalism and described negligence of duty as a major threat to public safety and government property.

He warned that anyone found guilty of vandalism, theft or destruction of public infrastructure would face prosecution.
