I left ‘Wura’ series poorer – Actor Lanre Adediwura reveals

Actor Lanre Adediwura has disclosed that his role on MultiChoice’s television series Wura left him financially strained, adding that YouTube productions later became a source of stability for him.

Speaking on TVC Entertainment, Adediwura explained why he turned down an offer to return to the show.

According to him, the series was not financially rewarding and also limited his chances of taking on other roles that could have helped advance his career.

The actor said he spent more than he earned while working on the production and revealed that he struggled financially for about six months afterward.

He added that YouTube projects later helped him regain financial stability.

Adediwura also noted that although the role brought him public recognition, some aspects of the production fell short of what had initially been promised.

He said, “I came out of ‘Wura’, and I was spending more than I made. I came out poorer. For six months after ‘Wura’, I could have practically gone to a neighbour for Garri. It was YouTube that got me the stability.

“The role gave me everything I wanted, yes, maybe the production itself did not give me what I wanted because everything promised was not fulfilled. This is the first time anyone has heard this from me.

He said contractual obligations prevented him from taking on other projects during the 11 months of filming.

Adediwura cited House of Gaa as an example, explaining that although he handled translation work for the production, he was unable to play the role of Aláàfin Abiodun.

“The role deprived me of other things I could have done. When I was negotiating, they told me I should not worry about going to other productions. Throughout the 11 months of shooting, I could not go out for any production.

“The worst of them is ‘House of Gaa’. BAP reached out and I did the translation for House of Gaa from English to Yorùbá. I was supposed to play Aláàfin Abiodun”, he added.

He maintained that his public remarks would not lead to any legal consequences, adding that he introduced original elements to the show that are still being used.

He added, “There can be no issues. I have nuances I created on the show that are still being used. ‘Friends for life’ cannot be found elsewhere.”
