Two Customs officers have been killed by armed men believed to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist sect in Tugar community, Bagudu local government area of Kebbi state.
According to Punch, the attackers invaded a customs checkpoint in the community in the early hours of Wednesday.
A source said one of the victims, a senior officer, was burnt to death after the attackers set fire to the building where he was sleeping.
“The gunmen attacked two checkpoints that are very close to each other. They shot one officer, a junior officer, while they burnt the senior officer alive,” the source said.
“They came in a truck, disguised as if they were carrying animals, which caught the officers unaware. Two other officers with gunshot injuries are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.”
Bashir Usman, spokesperson of the Kebbi state police command, condemned the incident and said security agencies have begun efforts to track down those responsible.
“The incident at Gendene is unfortunate, and security agencies have since responded appropriately,” he said.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible and prevent further security breaches.”
