ASUU Kano has criticised the partial implementation and refusal by some universities to implement the salary component of the 2025 agreement.

The union’s Kano Zonal Coordinator, Abdullahi Muhammad, made the statement during a press briefing at Bayero University Kano on Wednesday.

“ASUU Kano Zone strongly condemns the partial or outright refusal to implement the salary component of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement by a number of Vice Chancellors of public universities,” he said.

He noted that excitement around the agreement announced on January 14, 2026, was fading due to the government’s failure to fully implement it.

“Our concern arises from the government’s inability to constitute the implementation monitoring committee, which was expected to protect the agreement from bureaucratic delays and inertia and ensure its effective implementation.”

He further said federal officials had implemented the agreement in a fragmented and poorly coordinated way, while only a few state governments had adopted it.

He explained that some universities had only partially implemented allowances that were meant to be fully integrated into salaries under the new academic pay structure.

According to him, failure to set up the monitoring committee had also affected other key parts of the agreement, including the proposed National Research Council.

ASUU therefore urged both federal and state governments to fully respect the agreement to maintain peace in the university system.

“ASUU remains committed to ensuring that all its members fully benefit from the modest achievements secured through the eight-year negotiation process spanning 2017 to 2025,” he said.

He warned that continued neglect could lead to disruption of the academic calendar, noting that members’ patience was running out.
