The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, says the people of Oyo State will determine who emerges as leaders in the 2027 elections, regardless of political endorsements or associations.
Speaking with journalists at his Bodija residence in Ibadan on Wednesday, the former Oyo State governor dismissed suggestions that his influence would decide the outcome of the polls.
Ladoja noted that several governorship hopefuls in the state have been linking themselves to him as part of their political campaigns, but maintained that the final decision rests with the electorate.
According to the monarch, politicians are free to associate with him, stressing that he does not see anything wrong with aspirants identifying with his name publicly.
“Let them use my name to promote themselves if it is meaningful to them. But the populace will decide who rules them at the end of the day, not my name,” he said.
He added that voters would assess candidates based on their popularity, achievements and past records before making their choices during the election.
The traditional ruler also reacted to the kidnapping of 39 students and teachers in parts of Oriire Local Government Area, describing the incident as unfortunate.
While expressing concern over the abduction, he commended the efforts of security agencies and government officials working to rescue the victims.
“Government and security agencies are trying their best. It’s just that they won’t tell you what they’re doing to secure the release of those abducted for security purposes,” he stated.
Ladoja further condemned land grabbing in Ibadanland, warning that such activities remain unacceptable in the ancient city.
