The House of Representatives has called for immediate federal intervention following a deadly communal clash between the Karinjo and Wurkun communities in Taraba State’s Karim Lamido LGA.
Raising the issue on the floor of the House, Mohammed Audu said the violence, which erupted on May 29, left at least five people dead, several others injured, and caused significant destruction to homes, farms, and livestock.
According to the lawmaker, the conflict has worsened the security challenges in the area, which is already facing threats from bandit attacks along the borders of Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi, and Gombe states. He added that over 100 residents have been displaced, leaving many without shelter and access to basic necessities.
Audu noted that the affected communities depend largely on farming and animal husbandry, making the loss of crops, livestock, and property particularly devastating for residents.
Concerned by the growing humanitarian situation, lawmakers urged security agencies to strengthen efforts to restore peace and prevent further violence. They also appealed to the Federal Government and relief agencies to provide urgent support for displaced families.
The House emphasized the need for lasting peace through dialogue, stronger security measures, and initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of the recurring communal conflict.
