Armed bandits on Wednesday abducted seven students on the outskirts of the Low-Cost Area in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The attack reportedly took place around 4:00 a.m. when the armed assailants invaded the students’ residences and forcefully took the victims to an unknown location.
According to the Zamfara State Police Command, one of the abducted students managed to escape from captivity and has since rejoined the authorities.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said joint tactical teams comprising police operatives and military personnel under Operation Fansar Yamma were swiftly deployed to the scene after the incident was reported.
However, the bandits had already fled before security forces arrived.
He added that security operatives have since intensified search-and-rescue operations aimed at securing the release of the remaining abducted students and tracking down those responsible for the attack.
The police spokesperson urged residents to remain calm and support ongoing efforts by providing credible information that could aid the operation.
The Command also assured the public that every necessary step is being taken to ensure the safe rescue of the victims, promising further updates as the situation develops.
