The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has thrown its support behind the ongoing protests by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), calling for urgent action to secure the release of abducted students and teachers.

In a statement issued on Thursday, NANS President Akinteye Babatunde said the association remains committed to advocating for the safe return of all victims and ensuring that insecurity does not continue to threaten education in the country.

He expressed concern over the rising number of attacks on schools, noting that fear among students, teachers, and parents could have serious consequences for the education sector if not addressed quickly.

Akinteye praised the NLC and NUT for drawing attention to the plight of those in captivity and pledged that NANS would continue working with relevant stakeholders, including security agencies, community leaders, and labour groups, to push for their rescue.

While reaffirming support for the campaign, he stressed that the focus should remain on the victims and their families rather than political interests. He also warned against attempts to use the issue for partisan purposes.

The student leader called on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abductees, describing their situation as a national emergency that requires immediate action.

The statement follows growing outrage over the recent abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State, which prompted the NUT to declare a nationwide strike, with the NLC backing the action. NANS had earlier joined advocacy efforts aimed at demanding stronger security measures for schools and the protection of learners across the country.
