The Bauchi State Police Command has recorded a major success in its anti-kidnapping operations, rescuing two abducted victims and arresting five suspected kidnappers in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
The command disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Nafiu Habib.
The victims, a 40-year-old woman and her 25-year-old son, were abducted on June 2, 2026, when armed men stormed a residence in Kwarin Gadali Hamlet, Pali District, Alkaleri LGA.
Following a report of the incident, security operatives immediately launched a coordinated intelligence-driven operation to locate the victims and track down the suspects.
Habib stated, “Upon receipt of the report, operatives from Pali Outstation immediately visited the scene of the crime and commenced intelligence-led operations to track the perpetrators and secure the release of the victims.”
Acting on credible intelligence, a joint team comprising police officers, soldiers and local vigilantes arrested three suspects at Kuka Village in Duguri District on the same day. The suspects were identified as Mainasara Umaru, 23; Buba Umaru, 20; and Muhammadu Usman, 19.
Habib said, “Their arrest followed trails that led operatives to their residence.”
Further investigations led to the arrest of two more suspects on June 3 after one of those in custody reportedly provided information about the kidnapping and the victims’ whereabouts. This intelligence also helped security operatives apprehend another suspect, Ahmadu Umaru, in Dalgade.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the victims were later rescued unharmed during a follow-up operation.
“Following intelligence-driven operations, the kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt on June 3, 2026. They have since been taken to the General Hospital, Alkaleri, for medical examination and attention,” he stated.
All five suspects remain in custody, while the case has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation. Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects and recover weapons allegedly used in the crime.
