Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to continue praying for peace and stability in the country, assuring citizens that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully committed to tackling insecurity and restoring calm nationwide.
He also reiterated the government’s determination to secure the release of children and other citizens being held by bandits and terrorists. In addition, he paid tribute to past heroes whose sacrifices helped preserve the democratic system Nigerians enjoy today.
Shettima made the remarks on Friday in Abuja after a special Jummat prayer at the National Mosque held in commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day.
Addressing Nigerians, he said:
“I want to assure Nigerians of President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment towards restoring peace and stability in the nation.
“No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of dawn. Stormy as the weather may be, it will not rain forever. The government remains irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in the nation.”
The vice president encouraged citizens to pray for the country and for one another, stressing that the ties binding Nigerians together are stronger than the differences that separate them.
Earlier, the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Haroun Eze, urged Nigerians to remain patriotic and committed to protecting the nation.
He also appealed to leaders at all levels to take firm measures to address security concerns and promote peace, describing stability as a key requirement for national growth and citizens’ welfare.
The annual Democracy Day prayer gathering highlighted the importance of unity, reflection, and prayer as the country celebrates its democratic progress while confronting ongoing security and development challenges.
Among the dignitaries present were the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola; and former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Others in attendance included former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mahmoud Yayale Ahmed; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari; and the outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede.
