‘Your vote is your voice,’ Natasha Akpoti urges kogi residents to register for PVC ahead of 2027 elections
The senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has encouraged residents of Kogi State to take part in the ongoing voter registration and voter data update exercise in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The appeal was contained in a public awareness message released on Friday.
Akpoti-Uduaghan urged eligible citizens, especially young people and first-time voters, to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before the July 10 deadline announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
She described the PVC as a vital instrument through which citizens can shape the future of their communities, state and country.
“I urge all Kogi State indigenous sons and daughters, especially our youths and first-time voters, to participate actively in the ongoing PVC registration exercise,” she said.
“Your vote remains your voice, and your voice matters in shaping the future of our communities, our state, and our nation.”
The lawmaker stressed that every qualified citizen deserves the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
“No responsible citizen should be left out of the electoral process. Those who have attained voting age should register immediately, while those whose voter information requires correction or updating should take advantage of the ongoing exercise before the deadline,” she stated.
She also called on traditional rulers, youth groups, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to step up voter awareness efforts across the state.
“I call on families, friends, community associations, and stakeholders across Kogi State to encourage one another to register,” she said.
“Democracy thrives when citizens participate actively. A PVC is not just a card; it is a symbol of your right to determine the future you desire.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan noted that a high turnout in the registration exercise would help strengthen democratic governance and ensure that the interests of Kogi residents are reflected in future elections.
She advised eligible voters not to wait until the final days of the exercise before registering or updating their details.
According to the senator, meaningful citizen participation remains essential for deepening democracy and promoting accountable leadership.
INEC is currently conducting a nationwide voter registration and voter information update exercise ahead of the July 10 deadline.
