Deputy governor seat tops demands of Nasarawa ethnic group for 2027

As political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election gather momentum in Nasarawa State, the Migili Cultural Development Association has intensified calls for one of its members to be chosen as the APC’s deputy governorship candidate.

The group argued that the Migili people have remained loyal supporters of successive administrations and have consistently delivered votes during elections, yet have not been adequately represented in top government positions.

Speaking in Lafia, the association’s National President, Abu Ishaq, said the demand has united various segments of the Migili community, including traditional rulers, youths, students, and community leaders, who are now working together to secure broader support across the state.

He said, “We have gone round pleading and soliciting support from our brothers. As I said, this is the Migili project. For the first time, the student union, the youth, the cultural development association, and the traditional council have united to fight for this.

“Migili as a tribe, we are peaceful people, we are law-abiding people, we are a very organised people. We are the first to settle in Lafia Division. We are therefore appealing to the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, who is the leader of the APC in the state, to consider the Migili Nation for the deputy governorship slot.

“Our people are spread across the five local government areas of Nasarawa South Senatorial District, which include: Lafia, Doma, Obi, Awe, and Keana, with a total voting strength of over 50,000.

“As President of the tribe, we have anonymously agreed that if given this Deputy Governorship slot, we will galvanise all our votes to ensure that APC win with a landslide during the 2027 general elections.”

The association believes that granting the position to a Migili candidate would promote inclusiveness and strengthen the party’s support base in the southern part of the state.

The appeal echoes an earlier request by Migili youth leaders, who also urged Governor Abdullahi Sule and APC stakeholders to consider the ethnic group when selecting a running mate for the next governorship election.

Speaking on behalf of the youths, Sunday Aleku maintained that the Migili people are widely represented across several communities and local government areas, making their request deserving of serious consideration.

“The Migili ethnic nationality have their settlement spread across various communities and local government areas in the state, therefore our request should be properly looked into by the Governor and other leaders of APC in the state,” he emphasised.
