The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has impounded 30 vehicles as part of a renewed operation to enforce regulations governing the use of tinted glass and vehicle registration within Abuja.

Speaking during a media briefing on Friday, FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said the exercise was prompted by growing security concerns over the use of tinted vehicles, concealed number plates and unregistered automobiles in criminal activities across the capital.

According to the police chief, intelligence reports indicate that many criminal elements exploit such vehicles to conceal their identities, evade detection and frustrate law enforcement efforts. He noted that offences such as one-chance robberies, kidnappings and other crimes are frequently linked to vehicles operating in violation of existing regulations.

Sanusi explained that the command has therefore launched a comprehensive enforcement campaign targeting vehicles with unauthorised tinted windows, obscured registration plates and improper documentation.

He stressed that the operation is not aimed at inconveniencing law-abiding motorists who possess valid approvals for tinted glass usage. Rather, it is intended to prevent criminals from using such vehicles as cover to carry out unlawful acts against residents of the FCT.

As part of the ongoing exercise, more than 30 vehicles found violating the regulations have already been seized.

The commissioner disclosed that owners and operators of the impounded vehicles would face prosecution in accordance with relevant federal laws and the FCT Road Transport Regulations of 2023.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and proactive crime prevention, Sanusi appealed for public understanding and cooperation as the enforcement exercise continues.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency contact lines.
