The X user widely known as Swanky 001, Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, has been released from custody weeks after he was sentenced to prison for making false claims about Deja, the daughter of singers Adekunle Gold and Simi.

On May 14, social media influencer Pamilerin Adegoke disclosed that Adeyeye had been sentenced to two years imprisonment after pleading guilty to charges of cyberbullying and defamation.

The case originated from a post in which Adeyeye shared an image of a candle with the caption: “My sincere condolences to the Adekunle family. RIP to Deja,” falsely suggesting that the child had died.

In a post on X, human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, confirmed that Adeyeye has now been freed after a “concerned benefactor” settled the court-imposed fine.

“A piece of good news worth reporting is that Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, popularly known online by his handles @Swanky001 and Swanky_concept, has regained his freedom after a Good Samaritan paid the court-imposed fine,” Sowore wrote.

“Adeyeye was arrested, prosecuted, and convicted by a Federal High Court in Lagos on charges of cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and spreading information the court found to be false and malicious. The case arose from social media posts concerning the daughter of popular Nigerian singer @adekunleGOLD and his wife, @SympLySimi.

“Following public interventions regarding the prison sentence imposed on him, a concerned benefactor stepped forward and paid the court-imposed fine in lieu of imprisonment.

“As a result, Adeyeye has now been released and reunited with his family.”

Court documents attached to Sowore’s post indicated that the fine amounted to N1 million, which was paid on June 5.
