The governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, and several leaders of the Accord political party narrowly escaped injury on Wednesday after a campaign podium collapsed during a rally in Ijebu-Jesa.

Among those on the platform when the incident occurred were Kola Adewusi, the deputy governor; Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council; and other prominent Accord leaders.

A video shared on Facebook captured the moment the structure gave way shortly after a musician ended a performance and as the governor rose from his seat.

The incident briefly interrupted proceedings before the rally resumed.

Reacting afterward, Adeleke said the turnout at the event reflected growing public confidence in the Accord political party.

He encouraged residents to participate actively in the forthcoming election, stressing that intimidation and violence would not diminish the party’s support base.

“This massive presence proves that Accord has become stronger despite the defection of some lawmakers,” the Osun governor said.

“I want to applaud Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi for pulling a strong show under Accord leaders from Ijesaland. He is the David of this generation destined to defeat all Goliaths in the opposition party.

“No amount of violence can change the love of the people for Accord; let us come out on the day of election to vote massively. Our vote is our voice.”

The gathering was organised to unveil the “Imole Canvassers’ Group” in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State.

The initiative was conceived by Olajengbesi, the Accord candidate for the Obokun/Oriade federal constituency seat.

Organisers said the programme aims to mobilise about 10,000 canvassers to showcase Adeleke’s achievements across Osun East.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with Adeleke seeking a second term under the Accord platform.
