Sanwo-Olu, Nigerian-British actor, David Oyelowo discuss Lagos’ growing influence in global entertainment

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently welcomed Nigerian-British actor, director, and producer David Oyelowo to Lagos House, Marina, for a courtesy visit.

Sharing details of the meeting on X on Thursday, the governor said both men engaged in a productive discussion centered on the creative sector, storytelling, and the factors helping Lagos emerge as a major destination for talent and innovation.

According to Sanwo-Olu: “I received Nigerian-British actor, director and producer David Oyelowo on a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Marina. We had a warm conversation about the creative industry, storytelling and the opportunities that continue to position Lagos as a leading hub for talent and innovation.”

Oyelowo, celebrated for his performances in Selma, Queen of Katwe, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves, has consistently championed African narratives and stronger international partnerships in filmmaking.

The visit comes as Lagos intensifies efforts to strengthen its creative economy through investments in funding, infrastructure, and collaborations aimed at supporting filmmakers, musicians, and digital content creators.
