The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority has stepped up its enforcement of laws against illegal open grazing and unauthorised livestock rearing, impounding animals found violating regulations in Apata Olomo along the Ado-Awaye Road in Iseyin Local Government Area.
According to the Authority’s Chairperson, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (retd.), the operation was carried out following complaints from farmers who accused some herders of destroying farmlands and consuming crops, resulting in significant economic losses.
She explained that the enforcement action was triggered by formal petitions from affected residents, prompting an investigation by a team led by retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Francis Ojoomo, alongside other security officials and representatives of the agency.
During the operation, the team reportedly confirmed that livestock were being openly grazed in violation of existing state laws, leading to the seizure of some of the animals.
Aderemi reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enforcing livestock management regulations, protecting farming communities, and ensuring compliance across the state.
The development comes as Oyo State continues to tighten measures against open grazing in an effort to reduce farmer-herder conflicts, safeguard agricultural investments, and strengthen food security.
