Insecurity: Police dismiss rumours of school closure in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has refuted reports alleging that schools across the state have been shut down over insecurity, describing the claims as unfounded and misleading.

The clarification was made by the command’s spokesperson, Bashir Usman, in a statement issued on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi in response to rumours surrounding school closures, alleged kidnappings, and claims that parents had withdrawn their children from school.

Usman maintained that there was no basis for the speculation, stressing that academic activities are proceeding normally across the state.

He further noted that students have recently resumed for the new academic term, while final-year students are safely participating in the ongoing Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) at designated centres across Kebbi State.

According to him, the state’s academic calendar remains under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and has not been affected by any security-related disruptions.

The police spokesperson further said security agencies, in collaboration with vigilante groups, have continued to carry out intelligence-led operations across the state to maintain peace and protect residents.

He maintained that recent arrests and the neutralisation of criminal elements demonstrate the effectiveness of the ongoing security efforts and urged the public to disregard unfounded rumours capable of causing panic.
