[TRENDING VIDEO] Mixed reactions as masked man threatens bandit invasion of Lagos areas

26

Reactions have trailed a viral video depicting a masked individual issuing threats of a bandit invasion in various Lagos State locations, including Badagry and Ikorodu. The video, shared by The Yoruba Times, features an individual using broken English and a seemingly forced northern accent to declare an imminent incursion into these areas.

However, social media users have quickly identified several inconsistencies in the video, suggesting it may be a hoax. Observations range from the individual’s use of southern-style Ankara fabric as a mask to the clearly Yoruba-inflected pronunciation of the targeted locations. Many users have dismissed the clip as an act of fear-mongering orchestrated by a southerner attempting to impersonate a northerner.

This incident follows a pattern of false rumors that previously led to unnecessary school closures and tragic instances of mistaken assault. While authorities have confirmed there are no credible threats and have urged the public to remain calm amidst the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria’s northwest, the video continues to spark intense debate online.
