The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, has extended congratulations to Muslims on the celebration of the Islamic New Year, 1st Muharram, 1448 A.H.
He noted that the Hijrah, marked by the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah, laid the foundation for justice, unity, and communal development, values he described as vital for peace in society.
In a goodwill message released on Tuesday through his spokesman, Abdulazeez Arowona, the monarch described Hijrah as a reminder of sacrifice, endurance, and trust in divine guidance.
He said, “Hijrah teaches us that hard times do not last forever. As we enter 1448 A.H., I urge Muslims to renew their commitment to piety, peaceful coexistence, and service to humanity.”
Sulu-Gambari called on Nigerians to use the new Islamic year to pray for peace, unity, and economic stability, while urging leaders in both religious and political spheres to avoid statements capable of causing division and instead promote national harmony.
He also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for promoting religious tolerance in Kwara State and encouraged youths to uphold discipline and avoid social vices such as violence and drug abuse.
The Emir paid tribute to the late Prof. Yusuf Lanre Badmos, praising his contributions to Islamic scholarship and his efforts in advancing Hijrah observance in the state.
He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and asked Allah to grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
He further prayed for good health, blessings, and acceptance of acts of worship for Muslims in the new year.
