[TRENDING VIDEO] VeryDarkMan, protesters march to Makinde’s residence over abducted pupils, teachers
A group of young people led by social commentator and human rights activist, Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), staged a protest at the private residence of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, demanding the rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.
The protesters began their march from Iwo Road in Ibadan and moved through major streets in the state capital, calling for decisive action against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping across the country.
Carrying placards with different messages, the demonstrators voiced concern over the continued captivity of the victims and urged the government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward securing their release.
The protest ended at Makinde’s residence in Ikolaba, where the governor addressed the crowd and assured them that his administration remained committed to bringing the abducted pupils and teachers home safely.
Makinde said the state government, working alongside security agencies, was deploying every available resource to secure the victims’ freedom.
According to him, “Those children and their teachers will be brought back. Let me make it very clear: Oyo State is not Chibok, and it will never become Chibok.
We have committed significant resources and deployed all available efforts to ensure their rescue.”
The governor noted that security personnel had continued to make sacrifices in the ongoing operation to free the victims, stressing that efforts would not stop until they were reunited with their families.
He also expressed his personal commitment to the rescue mission, saying, “If you ask me whether I can sacrifice myself for those children to regain their freedom, I will do it. I have lived a good life, and nothing is more important than bringing those innocent children and their teachers back safely.”
Makinde appealed to residents to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies with credible information, assuring them that every possible measure was being explored to achieve the safe return of the victims.
