The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, has called on legal practitioners to uphold integrity, strong character, and a sound conscience as key requirements for effective justice delivery in Nigeria.
She made the call through Justice Tajudeen Okusokan of the Ogun State High Court while speaking at the 3rd Annual Law Dinner of the College of Law, Chrisland University, Abeokuta.
According to her, legal education should not be limited to academic knowledge alone but must also include character development and ethical grounding.
She told the students that the training they receive is meant to prepare them for the legal profession, where knowledge of statutes, cases, and doctrines must be matched with strong moral values.
She warned that a lawyer without character poses a risk to society, while a judge lacking conscience is a threat to justice, urging students to balance legal technicality with fairness and justice.
She also stressed that reputation and integrity are built early in a legal career and remain influential throughout one’s professional journey, adding that trustworthiness is developed through consistent discipline and behaviour.
The Chief Judge further advised students to prepare for the demands of the profession, noting that it requires discipline, hard work, courage, and commitment to public service.
She commended Chrisland University for promoting academic excellence and producing law graduates who are both competent and ethical.
Other speakers at the event also encouraged students to embrace discipline, excellence, and continuous learning as essential foundations for success in the legal profession.
