Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the immediate implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for eligible public servants in the state.

The development was announced by the Chairman of the Oyo State Pensions Board, Tunji Adekunle, in a circular issued through the Permanent Secretary of the Post Service Board, Rev. Adekunle Victor Adesola, and communicated to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as civil and public servants across the state.

According to Adekunle, the scheme will apply to workers employed into the Oyo State Civil and Public Service from January 1, 2025, while official implementation will commence on July 1, 2026.

He explained that the contribution structure provides for a 12 per cent contribution from the state government as employer and eight per cent from employees.

Adekunle also assured that the state government would pay accrued benefits due to all affected workers once the scheme takes effect.

To facilitate implementation, all MDAs have been directed to submit a comprehensive list of employees recruited since January 1, 2025, using the prescribed Excel template.

The Pensions Board further instructed each ministry, department and agency to appoint a Pension Desk Officer to serve as a liaison with the board on all matters relating to the scheme.

According to the circular, the designated officers will help ensure effective coordination, accountability, capacity building and smooth administration of the Contributory Pension Scheme.

Required details for the nominated officers include their full name, designation, grade level, WhatsApp number, email address and phone number.

The board directed that all relevant information and supporting documents be submitted in both hard and soft copies on or before June 22, 2026.
