There was a strong deployment of security personnel from the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) across Ikere-Ekiti on Saturday ahead of the commencement of the Ekiti governorship election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ikere-Ekiti is the hometown of the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Mrs Monisade Afuye, and also the home of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Dr Oluwole Oluyede.
NAN further reports that police officers barricaded both entry and exit points into the town to enforce compliance with the restriction of movement order during the election.
NAN also observed that vehicles and motorcycles were being turned back, with residents allowed to move only on foot, while shops and restaurants remained closed.
However, accredited journalists covering the election were granted access to move around with vehicles bearing INEC identification stickers.
