Bauchi Assembly member dies, gov mourns

A member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing Sakwa Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, Mohammad Wanzam, has died.

The lawmaker reportedly passed away in the early hours of Sunday in Bauchi after a brief illness.

His death was announced by the Speaker of the House, Abubakar Sulaiman, in a statement issued through his spokesman, Mukhtar Garba Kobi.

The Speaker expressed sadness over the loss, describing Wanzam as a dedicated public servant who represented his constituency and served the state with distinction.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With a heavy heart and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I announce the passing of a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing Sakwa Constituency, Hon. Mohammad Wanzam.”

The funeral prayer for the deceased was held on Sunday at Gwallaga Juma’at Mosque.

The Speaker prayed for Allah’s mercy on the deceased, asking that his shortcomings be forgiven, his good deeds accepted, and that he be granted Aljannatul Firdaus.

Meanwhile, Bala Mohammed described the late lawmaker as a humble leader and committed public servant whose life was marked by dedication to the welfare of his constituents and the development of Bauchi State.

In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor noted that Wanzam distinguished himself through diligence, patriotism and maturity, particularly in his role as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation.

He also praised the lawmaker’s contributions to policy formulation and oversight activities aimed at improving the lives of residents.

“His death is a great loss not only to his family and constituents but also to the entire Bauchi State. We have lost a dependable legislator, a bridge-builder, and a man whose humility and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and citizens alike.”

The governor urged residents to draw comfort from the legacy of service, commitment and selflessness left behind by the late lawmaker and prayed that Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
