BREAKING: Sowore sent to Kuje prison on court order

26

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), be kept at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

The ruling was delivered on Monday by Justice Mohammed Umar, who directed that Sowore remain in custody while the court considers a motion challenging the revocation of his bail and the bench warrant previously issued for his arrest.

The judge adjourned the matter to June 24 for hearing of the application filed by Sowore’s new lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika.

Sowore, who is also the publisher of Sahara Reporters, was present in court and arrived with supporters carrying placards.

The court had earlier, on June 16, revoked his bail after he was said to have failed to appear for his trial, and subsequently issued a bench warrant following an application by counsel to the Department of State Services (DSS), Akinkolu Kehinde (SAN).

He is being prosecuted by the DSS over allegations of making false and defamatory statements against President Bola Tinubu on social media platforms.
