Gunmen have abducted the wife and son of chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yauri LGA of Kebbi state, Yusuf Sani Alhassan.

Spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, Bashir Usman, said efforts were underway to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible.

“The Command is aware and is working with relevant stakeholders towards ensuring the safe return of the victims,” Usman said.

“At this moment, the priority remains the rescue of the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.”

Earlier, police sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, that the abduction occurred at about 4am on Monday when armed men suspected to be kidnappers invaded the APC chairman’s residence in the Low Cost area of Yauri.

The assailants reportedly abducted Alhassan’s wife, Nana Aisha Yusuf, 35, and his son, Sanusi Yusuf, 25, before fleeing to an unknown destination.

According to the sources, the attackers were armed with dangerous weapons and overpowered residents before whisking the victims away.

Following a distress report, the divisional police officer mobilised a joint team of police operatives and local vigilantes to the area.

However, security personnel were said to have arrived after the kidnappers had escaped into a nearby forest with the victims.
