The Nigerian disc jockey, Remi Tinubu, has criticised Oluremi Tinubu over recent comments about small-scale food businesses.
During a recent interview, the first lady said micro-businesses such as selling akara (bean cakes), roasted corn, and kuli kuli (peanut snacks) can be started with little capital.
She also stressed that the government is offering grants, not loans, to support such businesses.
“We’re trying to give hope, and to start Akara business doesn’t take a lot of money. To start roasting corn, or somebody even said kuli kuli doesn’t take much. We didn’t give them a loan; we gave it to them as a grant,” she said.
DJ Switch, whose real name is Obianuju Udeh, reacted through her Instagram story, condemning what she described as a narrow approach to economic growth.
She argued that the government should focus on building opportunities and infrastructure that will help citizens succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world.
“With absolutely no due respect Remi! Thunder fire you! While other nations are creating spaces and infrastructure to develop their people for this rapidly technologically advancing world, you want us to sell kuli kuli?” she wrote.
“And the otondo’s behind you are nodding their greedy necks! I can’t express how much I despise you people.”
DJ Switch has remained a notable public figure since documenting the shooting of unarmed protesters during the End SARS protests at Lekki on October 20, 2020.
She later went into hiding following reported threats to her life.
