Hanan Buhari, daughter of Nigeria’s late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has said her father played a key role in shaping her character, crediting him for teaching her strong values that continue to guide her life.

She spoke on Thursday night in Marrakech, Morocco, shortly after being honoured among the 100 Most Notable Peace Icons of Africa at the Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit.

According to a statement released on Friday by the Project Director of the summit, Kingsley Amafibe, she dedicated the award to her late father and paid tribute to his influence on her upbringing.

“I dedicate this honour to my late father, President Muhammadu Buhari, whose guidance, discipline, and unwavering belief in me shaped the woman I have become.

She said her father’s guidance helped her develop discipline and resilience, noting that his support gave her confidence in her abilities and purpose.

“He taught me the importance of integrity, resilience, and selfless service. His confidence in me gave me the courage to believe in myself, and I will continue to uphold the values he instilled in me by working to empower women and contribute meaningfully to society,” she said.

The statement also noted that Amafibe congratulated her on the recognition, describing her as a figure whose work continues to inspire women across Africa.

The award was presented at a summit organised by the DAVDAN Peace and Advocacy Foundation and 100 Most Notable Peace Icons Africa, which brought together leaders from across the continent to celebrate contributions to peacebuilding, leadership and development.
