Trump agrees to fresh Iran talks, says ceasefire has ended

US President Donald Trump says Washington has agreed to continue negotiations with Iran despite maintaining that the ceasefire between the two countries has officially ended.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump disclosed that Iran requested further talks and the United States accepted, while making it clear that the ceasefire was no longer in effect.

Earlier this week in Ankara, Trump declared the April 8 truce—which halted weeks of intense fighting but was repeatedly violated—had collapsed. He also criticised Iranian leaders and said any future diplomatic engagement would depend on Tehran’s willingness to negotiate.

The US president noted that businessman and envoy Steve Witkoff, alongside his son-in-law Jared Kushner, would remain involved in discussions with Iranian officials.

The latest development follows renewed hostilities between both countries, including Iranian attacks on commercial vessels and US military assets, as well as retaliatory American strikes targeting Iranian positions.
