The Edo State Police Command has announced a statewide restriction on movement from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, to ensure adequate security during the local government elections.
The command said the restriction, which will be enforced alongside other security agencies, is intended to guarantee a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process across the state.
According to the police, all vehicular and pedestrian movement will be prohibited during the period, except for officials of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), accredited election observers, authorised media personnel, security operatives, emergency responders and other essential workers on election duty.
Security personnel have been deployed across all 18 local government areas to protect voters, election officials and sensitive materials, while maintaining law and order throughout the exercise.
The command warned that anyone who violates the restriction or attempts to disrupt the election will be arrested and prosecuted.
Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place and urged eligible voters to participate peacefully and comply with electoral guidelines to ensure a successful poll.
