The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, over the alleged killing of his 20-year-old wife in Angwan Yahaya, Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at about 12:30 p.m. after a complaint was lodged at the Agyaragu Police Division alleging that the suspect assaulted his wife, leading to her death. The deceased is survived by two children—a boy and a girl—from their six-year marriage.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Rahman Nansel, the police said the Divisional Police Officer immediately deployed patrol officers to the scene after receiving the report.
The victim was evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, for medical examination and preservation.
According to the statement, “The suspect was promptly arrested and, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to committing the act.”
Police said the suspect claimed he acted in anger after the deceased allegedly refused to prepare food following an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation. He, however, expressed remorse over the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for further investigation.
The commissioner assured residents that justice would be served and that the suspect would be arraigned after the investigation is concluded.
He also condemned domestic violence, describing the incident as tragic and avoidable, and urged couples and family members to embrace dialogue, patience and lawful means of resolving disputes.
The command added that the situation in Agyaragu and surrounding communities remains calm and is being monitored.
