Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has approved the disbursement of ₦1.3 billion for the payment of bursaries to qualified students across the state.
The governor also approved an upward review of the bursary from ₦20,000 to ₦50,000 for each beneficiary.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the state Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah.
According to the statement, the initiative is intended to reduce the financial challenges faced by students, improve access to higher education, and promote human capital development in the state.
The statement described the intervention as a demonstration of the governor’s commitment to investing in the future of Akwa Ibom youths.
“This landmark approval underscores the Governor’s commitment to easing the financial burden on students, expanding access to quality education, and investing in the future of Akwa Ibom’s young people,” the statement read.
It added that the intervention includes the release of ₦1.3 billion for bursary payments, an increase in the bursary award from ₦20,000 to ₦50,000 per beneficiary, and support for eligible students across the state.
The state government described the initiative as “a bold investment in human capital development” and reaffirmed its commitment to building greater opportunities for young people through education.
