The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a man suspected to be involved in cult activities and recovered a locally made pistol during a coordinated security operation in Ilorin.

The arrest was made during a targeted operation involving police officers, other security agencies and the Kwara State Polytechnic Security Unit as part of efforts to tackle cultism and illegal arms in the state.

Police identified the suspect as Agboola Olamilekan, saying he was found with the locally fabricated pistol when operatives apprehended him.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the operation was part of a wider strategy to prevent criminal groups from operating freely in Kwara.

She said, “The operation forms part of the Command’s sustained efforts to disrupt cult-related activities, curb the proliferation of illegal firearms, and deny criminal elements the opportunity to thrive within Kwara State.”

She added that detectives were expanding the investigation to identify and arrest other suspects connected to the alleged cult network.

The police also assured residents that the command would continue its offensive against individuals threatening peace and security in the state.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said the command would maintain the tempo of its operations against cultism and other violent crimes.

He said, “Every successful operation represents another step towards dismantling criminal networks and enhancing public safety across the state through proactive and intelligence-led policing.”

According to him, the command remains focused on advancing the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, through intelligence gathering, collaboration with relevant stakeholders and sustained operations.

The latest arrest follows similar operations carried out in recent weeks. On June 26, police arrested two suspected cult members, Abdullahi Jimoh Omotoho and Abdullahi Kareem Kawu, popularly known as “B-Red,” in separate intelligence-led raids within Ilorin, where officers also recovered a locally made firearm.
