Gunmen have kidnapped four students of Government Secondary School (GSS), Olowa, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State during the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examination.
The school’s principal and a NECO ad hoc staff member were also abducted in the attack.
According to security sources quoted by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the incident occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday while candidates were writing their examination.
The attackers reportedly invaded the school, abducted the victims and escaped to an unknown destination before security operatives arrived at the scene.
A joint team of security personnel has since launched a search-and-rescue operation, deploying intelligence resources and carrying out bush-combing operations across the area to track down the kidnappers.
Sources disclosed that one of the abducted students has been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims.
Security agencies have also intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering as investigations continue and efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack are stepped up.
