Activists Randy Peter and Mama Pee have been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after spending several hours at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja following an official invitation.
The duo left the EFCC office shortly after midnight on Wednesday after being questioned and were directed to report back on Thursday, according to activist Justice Cracks, who accompanied them.
Sharing an update on X, Justice Cracks recounted the day’s events, saying:
“My dear brother, @Peter4Nigeria, and my sister, @MamaPee__ were invited by the @officialEFCC. I personally accompanied them there on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. It was a very long day.”
He later confirmed that both activists were allowed to leave after about 11 hours at the commission.
“They were eventually released at around 12:00 a.m. and were asked to return the following day, 16th July 2026. For now, everything is fine,” he added.
Justice Cracks also shared a video from the EFCC premises while waiting for their release.
Earlier, concerns had grown over the activists’ whereabouts after Esther Umoh, who worked as a campaign photographer for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election, disclosed that they had remained inside the commission’s office for several hours.
“@MamaPee__ and @Peter4Nigeria were invited by the EFCC in Abuja, and as respectful citizens, they honored the invitation today. But as I type this, they are yet to be released by the commission,” she wrote on X.
The development fuelled speculation online that the pair had been arrested.
Those concerns were later laid to rest when Justice Cracks announced that Randy Peter and Mama Pee had been released and instructed to return to the EFCC office on Thursday.
The anti-graft agency has yet to state why it invited the two activists.
