The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Amos Paul for allegedly using a hot pressing iron to burn his 10-year-old daughter’s private part as a form of punishment for bedwetting.

The suspect, who resides in Unaun, Upenme, Owo Local Government Area of the state, was said to have inflicted the injuries on the child before the incident was reported to the police on Thursday.

Reports indicate that the victim suffered serious injuries from the alleged act and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

The police said detectives from the ‘A’ Division in Owo quickly responded to the report, moved to the scene, and arrested the suspect.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the matter had been transferred to the Gender Unit for a discreet investigation and further action.

Reacting to the incident, Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged action, describing it as cruel and inhumane.

“This act is cruel, inhumane and completely unacceptable,” Ohagwu said, reaffirming the command’s commitment to safeguarding children and other vulnerable individuals from abuse, violence, and exploitation.

He also urged members of the public to report cases of child abuse and domestic violence to the nearest police station promptly, assuring that the command would ensure that anyone found guilty faces the full weight of the law.
