An Enugu Air aircraft veered off the runway after landing at Benin Airport on Thursday, with the airline confirming that all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated without injuries.

The incident, described as a runway excursion, involved one of the Enugu State-owned carrier’s Embraer regional jets. In a statement posted on its official X account, the airline said the aircraft veered off the runway shortly after landing and that the relevant aviation authorities had been notified.

Enugu Air said the aircraft had been secured and an assessment of both the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the occurrence was underway in line with established aviation procedures.

The airline assured passengers that safety remains its highest priority, adding that the incident may lead to temporary adjustments to some flight schedules. It said affected passengers would be contacted directly and provided with the necessary assistance.

Videos circulating on social media showed the aircraft resting off the runway, prompting speculation that it had crash-landed. However, Enugu Air clarified that the occurrence was a runway excursion and stressed that there were no injuries or fatalities.

The Embraer regional jet involved was recently added to the airline’s fleet for commercial operations. The cause of the runway excursion has not yet been determined, while aviation authorities are expected to investigate the incident.
