Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, a former adult film performer better known as Amaranta Hank, has officially begun her role as a senator in Colombia after taking the oath of office.
Omaña earned a seat in the country’s Senate during the March elections on a campaign centred on improving the rights and welfare of workers in the adult entertainment industry.
Colombian media outlet El Tiempo reported that she will serve as the representative of Norte de Santander under the Historic Pact coalition for the 2026–2030 legislative term. Her position was secured after she ranked 23rd on the party’s closed list of candidates.
Official election results from Colombia’s National Registry show the Historic Pact received over 4.4 million votes, equivalent to 22.72 per cent of all Senate ballots, giving the coalition 25 seats and making it the largest force in the upper chamber.
Before joining politics, Omaña worked in journalism before moving into the adult film industry. She has repeatedly argued that her previous profession should not define her ability to make laws or serve the public.
According to Infobae Colombia, she believes people who have worked in the sexual economy deserve respect and legal protection because of their contribution to society, rather than facing discrimination.
Addressing criticism of her election in a TikTok video, she asked, “¿Por qué una mujer que estuvo en la industria para adultos no puede aspirar a un cargo de elección popular?” She explained the statement means “why a woman who was in the adult industry cannot aspire to a popularly elected office.”
The Cúcuta-born politician also said she intends to promote policies on mental health and the prevention of sexual abuse during her time in office.
Her swearing-in has drawn widespread attention, particularly because she was previously appointed, alongside former adult performer Juan Carlos Florián, to a position in the Ministry of Equality, a decision that sparked public debate within President Gustavo Petro’s government.
