Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed four suspected kidnappers, rescued three abducted victims and arrested eight suspects during coordinated security operations across Kogi and Kwara states.
The development was disclosed in an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.
According to the report, troops of Operation Savannah Shield laid an ambush for suspected kidnappers at a crossing point near Jonloji village in the riverine area of Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
During the operation, the troops neutralised four suspected kidnappers, rescued one abducted victim and recovered a pump-action gun, four motorcycles and N64,000 in cash.
The rescued victim was subsequently evacuated to the General Hospital in Kaiama for medical treatment.
In a separate operation, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Egbe rescued two kidnap victims who were abducted on July 21 at Ruga Mascaru in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The report stated that the kidnappers abandoned the victims and fled after sighting the advancing troops, allowing the victims to be safely reunited with their families.
In Plateau State, troops arrested three suspects accused of attempting to rape a 12-year-old girl in Bokkos Local Government Area before handing them over to the police for further investigation.
The report also revealed that troops responded to a clash between a farmer and a herder over the alleged destruction of farmland, arresting the farmer while the injured herder was evacuated for medical treatment.
It further stated that troops foiled an armed robbery attempt along the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sanyi road in Riyom Local Government Area after engaging the attackers, who fled the scene.
The report added that troops deployed in other operational theatres, including Operations Fansan Yamma, Hadin Kai and AA II, continued offensive operations and routine patrols without recording any major incidents.
