Motorists, commuters and residents have appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to expedite the completion of the second phase of the Mowe-Ofada Road project, saying it is necessary to reduce travel stress and improve safety for road users.
According to them, the unfinished section has become a major challenge, resulting in long traffic delays, frequent vehicle breakdowns and higher transportation costs for residents, workers and business operators.
Several motorists and residents who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate interviews on Saturday commended the reconstruction of the first section of the road but urged the state government to continue work on the remaining stretch.
A commercial driver, Mr Johnson Fadeyi, said the poor condition of the road had reduced the number of trips he could make daily while increasing vehicle maintenance costs because of its damaged surface.
“We face serious problems on this section of the road especially when it rains. I want to appeal to the state governor to urgently find a lasting solution to the road,” he said.
Mrs Bimpe Olaitan, a commuter, said the deplorable condition of the road exposed passengers to avoidable hardship, particularly during rush hours and the rainy season.
A transporter, Kadiri Bala, said the damaged portion of the road had slowed the movement of goods and services, negatively affecting businesses in Mowe, Ofada and surrounding communities.
He urged the Ogun State Government to prioritise the completion of the project, noting that it would stimulate economic activities and strengthen connectivity across the area.
Also speaking, a resident, Pastor Sunday Famuyiwa, called on the appropriate authorities to intensify temporary repairs on the failed sections while awaiting full reconstruction to reduce the difficulties experienced by motorists and other road users.
Famuyiwa expressed confidence in the administration’s commitment to infrastructural development but appealed for prompt action to ensure the road project is completed.
“Timely completion of the second section will enhance transportation, promote economic growth and improve the quality of life for thousands of residents using the corridor daily,” he said.
