Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has firmly ruled out serving beyond a single four-year term should he win the 2027 presidential election.
Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential flag-bearer in the 2023 election, dismissed suggestions that his single-term pledge was merely a tactical move to secure power.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Sunday Politics with Seun Okinbaloye, Obi confirmed that a four-year arrangement had been reached with his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing it as an “agreement” that both parties were bound to honour.
He said that as “gentlemen, we must respect” the deal, adding that he had no need for more time than that to set Nigeria on the right path.
“And I say it again: I will serve for four years — full stop. If you want me, it’s four years, full stop — not a day more,” he said.
