Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber has temporarily returned to London from the club’s pre-season training camp in Spain as part of his scheduled recovery from a groin injury.
According to reports, the 24-year-old’s return is a planned stage of his rehabilitation and not the result of any setback. He is expected to rejoin Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal squad in Spain once he completes the rehabilitation work.
Timber has been managing a groin problem that sidelined him after recovering from an ankle injury sustained toward the end of last season. Although he returned in time to play in Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, the groin issue later forced him to miss international matches with the Netherlands.
The Dutch defender enjoyed an outstanding campaign last season, making 30 Premier League appearances as Arsenal won the league title and cementing his place as the club’s first-choice right-back.
Since joining Arsenal from AFC Ajax in July 2023, Timber has also overcome a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that caused him to miss most of his debut season.
Arsenal hope to have him fully fit before the new season begins, with the club scheduled to face Manchester City F.C. in the Community Shield on August 16 before opening their Premier League title defence against Coventry City on August 21.
