Nigerian actress Olukemi Aluko, popularly known as Diva Gold, has criticised what she described as changing beauty standards in the film industry, alleging that undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) has become a major factor in securing acting roles.
Speaking in an interview on Oyinmomo, Diva claimed that fair-skinned actresses with surgically enhanced figures are increasingly being given preference over more talented performers.
She lamented that many gifted actors are being sidelined because they do not fit the industry’s current physical ideals.
“In our industry now, beauty is measured by BBL. The beauty standards in the industry have dropped so much. If you’re fair and have big buttocks, you’re good to go. There are so many people who have so much to offer but are not getting jobs because of this,” she said.
The skit maker further contended that producers and investors are prioritising market trends over artistic merit.
She suggested that industry financiers are responding to perceived audience preferences rather than valuing craft and acting ability.
“We are no longer in an era where craft and talent are the priority. Now, what the audience wants is what is prioritised, and investors will naturally move towards that,” she added
Diva claimed the industry’s beauty standards are pushing many people to undergo BBL in a bid to attract attention and secure opportunities.
“The issue is already affecting people. Many are now getting BBL just to get attention in the industry. You’ll notice someone goes offline, and when they come back, they’ve had BBL,” she added.
