An 11-year-old orphan in Benue State is receiving care after allegedly suffering severe physical abuse at the hands of her aunt’s husband, who accused her of stealing ₦1,000.
According to reports, the girl was beaten repeatedly, leaving her with multiple injuries to her face and other parts of her body. Neighbours reportedly rescued her in the early hours of the day after hearing her cries and finding her tied to a bench.
Preliminary findings later indicated that the child was not responsible for the missing money. Reports also suggest that she had been enduring repeated abuse and mistreatment in the household before the latest incident.
The child is now in protective care while authorities continue their investigation. Many are calling for those responsible to be held accountable and for justice to be served.
