The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread cloudiness and thunderstorms across the country from Wednesday to Friday.
In its weather outlook released in Abuja, the agency predicted cloudy conditions over several regions, with chances of thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa states during the morning hours.
NiMet added that Kaduna and the entire North-East region could experience thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains later in the day.
For the North-Central region, the agency said there would be cloudy skies with possibilities of thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau and Nasarawa states in the morning.
It added that afternoon and evening periods could bring thunderstorms with moderate rains across parts of Benue, Kogi, FCT, Kwara, Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau states.
NiMet also predicted cloudy conditions in the southern region, with chances of light rainfall over parts of the South-South during the morning hours, while moderate rains are expected later over parts of Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, the South-East and South-South regions.
The agency further forecast that on Thursday, parts of Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe states would experience thunderstorms with moderate rainfall during the morning.
It said most parts of the northern region would likely witness thunderstorms and moderate rains later in the afternoon or evening, while the North-Central region would experience cloudy conditions and possible thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.
NiMet also predicted moderate rainfall over parts of Ondo and the South-South region, with further rains expected in the South-East and South-South later in the day.
For Friday, the agency said cloudy conditions would persist in the North, with chances of thunderstorms and rainfall over parts of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Taraba states during the morning.
It added that the entire northern region could experience thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains later in the day.
According to NiMet, the North-Central region may witness cloudy weather with light rains over parts of Nasarawa and Benue states in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall later.
The agency also predicted cloudy skies across the southern region, with light rains expected over the South-South states in the morning and moderate rainfall likely in parts of Ondo, Oyo, Enugu, Imo, the South-East and South-South later.
NiMet warned that strong winds could occur before rainfall in areas affected by thunderstorms and advised residents to secure loose objects to prevent accidents.
The agency urged motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall, disconnect electrical appliances from power sources and keep away from tall trees to reduce risks from falling branches.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for proper flight planning.
The agency encouraged Nigerians to stay updated with weather information through its official channels.
