The Osun State Government has commenced another round of palliative payments to its civil servants as part of ongoing efforts to lessen the financial burden caused by the country’s economic challenges.
In a statement released on Wednesday through the state’s official X handle, the spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Olawale Rasheed, said the payment reflects the administration’s continued commitment to the welfare of government workers.
“As part of our commitment to civil servants of Osun State, the backbone of our administration, we have once again disbursed palliatives to augment their salaries,” Rasheed said.
He stated that the government had already introduced regular palliative payments before the implementation of the new minimum wage, adding that Osun was among the first states to take such a step.
“Notably, we commenced periodic palliative payments even before implementing the new minimum wage increase, which positioned Osun as one of the first states in the federation to do so,” he said.
Rasheed also said the current administration has taken a different approach to workers’ welfare compared to its predecessor, stressing that the government remains focused on ensuring civil servants receive the support and benefits due to them.
“This stands in stark contrast to the previous administration, which weaponized poverty and systematically deprived civil servants of their earned salaries and entitlements.
“Our government is committed to ensuring that those who serve the state are treated with dignity and provided with their rightful compensation,” the statement said.
The government added that the continued palliative payments are intended to improve workers’ confidence, raise morale within the civil service, attract skilled personnel into the public sector, and promote more efficient service delivery across the state.
