The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the interception of a cocaine shipment concealed inside phone chargers and destined for Saudi Arabia.
The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, revealed the development in a post on X on Sunday, cautioning that drug traffickers are increasingly hiding illicit substances in ordinary household items to avoid detection.
Babafemi said the packages initially appeared to contain regular phone chargers, but NDLEA operatives detected the concealed cocaine during their inspection.
“On the surface value, these are phone chargers but @ndlea_nigeria officers won’t fall for that. Concealed in there are consignments of cocaine going to Saudi Arabia,” he said.
He said the discovery underscored the agency’s repeated warnings to members of the public against helping to deliver parcels or luggage on behalf of others without proper verification.
“This is why we keep warning people not to help anyone deliver any parcel or luggage on their face value because of the desperation by traffickers,” Babafemi said.
